How to choose a beautiful mantelpiece mirror
What makes a good mirror above a fireplace, mantelpiece or chimney?
A fireplace with a beautiful mantelpiece is a feast for the eyes and with the right mirror above it, it exudes the exact atmosphere for the centre of the room.
Hanging up the mantelpiece mirror or placing it on the mantelpiece?
In the past mirrors were hung up as standard, but nowadays a mirror is often placed on the mantelpiece.
Placing a mirror on the chimney has some disadvantages when it comes to cleaning, but the advantage is that you do not have to drill into the walls and that the mirror is immediately ready for use and gives a nice result.
However, we recommend that you anchor the mirror so that it cannot fall over.
This can happen, for example, if there is a draught in the room when windows and doors are open.
Choosing a large or small mantelpiece mirror
There are various sizes of mantelpiece mirrors. The size also depends on the height of the chimney breast and the height of the ceiling.
In old houses with high ceilings of 3 metres or more a large mantelpiece mirror is shown to its best advantage.
An English-style mantel often has little space between the mantel and the ceiling, so a shaped mirror is very suitable for this purpose, for example a round or oval mirror.
Round or oval mantelpiece mirror
A round or oval mirror is not often chosen above a fireplace or mantelpiece, although it can be very beautiful.
Nowadays there is a wide choice of round and oval mirrors, both in the colour of the frame and in the decoration of the frame.
Round mirrors have made a leap forward, a round mirror adds organic curves to the room and breaks up all rectangular shapes.
Due to the large variety of mirror shapes, there is actually a round or oval mirror for every interior.
Round and oval mirrors are timeless, only the frame models change.

If you place the mirror standing on the mantelpiece, anchor it so that it cannot fall forward.
Choose a mantelpiece mirror that is slightly narrower than the mantelpiece itself. Leave at least 5 cm free on each side.

Make sure the mirror matches the rest of the furnishings.
